Start by adding it to your tagline.  Write articles, get people to talk about it, become an apache committer and add a link to it from your homepage ;-)

The tagline helps a lot for archived mail lists.  

Google is the only search that matters:

number of links from “trusted” (well linked) sources  determine placement

Also the google “ads” help.
