I'm glad to hear someone else experiences this behavior! Yes, I did discover that pressing tab does correctly indent the current line. While it's decently workable, I still felt that achieving the appropriate auto-indentation was a lot more natural. If you're interested, I'd suggest that you try my little hack that I posted above. It eliminates the need for any compensatory tabbing.
