Thanks Ivar! That was exactly the problem. It works perfectly without the unnecessary parens. I had to laugh at myself on this one. I spent almost two hours reading and re-reading everything I could on ccall and cfunction. The simple answer was in front of me the whole time. It's funny how the mind sometimes sees what it expects to see rather than what is truly there.
