I use 10.6, but have a 64-bit computer. I think most of the reason people 
that I know have stayed on this operating system is due to the ability to 
run old PowerPC programs, which does not exist in 10.7 above.

That being said I ended up building the application myself due to errors 
related to the libcurl.4.dylib version (caused Homebrew install to choke). 
I just wanted to add that building the app required gfortran, which I was 
able to get here ( http://r.research.att.com/tools/ ). These versions are 
compatible with particular versions of XCode. I couldn't use the ones 
listed on the GitHub page as they all required 10.7 and above.
