Dear OpenJump users and developers,
we (that is Intevation in Germany [1]) are currently
planning the implementation of a new
OpenJump plugin for Layout functionality.
There already exists one ("PrintLayout") from SIGLE.
But we do need more functionality and it turned out
that PrintLayout is kept entirely in french (comments, variables
and method names) which makes it really hard to maintain
internationally. Another reason is that the data strucure
is flat while for a more complex layout tool you need
a DOM like tree structure.
So, the basic plan is to develop a DOM based data model
to manage the objects of the layout.
This is accompanied with a interface to GUI methods (like
drawing a rectangle) and to export methods (e.g. PDF).
We will implement this framework as well as some
GUI methods and a PDF export.
We have not worked out the very details, so we are open
to any suggestions, needs, hints, ...
Background of this development is a small commercial contract
we received. We hope to make the tool as generally helpful as
possible. Any joined efford is welcome. The main activity phase
for the framework will be december and for the features in january
to february.
All the best
Jan
