Paolo, I'll try and deal with some of the "joining the core" issues on my blog this week. Its a little more complicated than it might seem at first.
As you can see, there are also some differences in opinion about what should go into the core, and what shouldn't. We try to compromise, and since Stefan does the work of integrating JUMP functionality into OpenJUMP I will support whatever he thinks is the best for integration of the imagery framework.
