Stefan, Each 'loader' in the framework auto enables/disabled based on whether the required libraries are present ... so no need to disable the ECW beyond just removing the dll from the build.

What i have not yet done is the translation and I still need to copy the dlls (some 7.6mb) for the ecw stuff to the CVS. currently the imagery plugins/functions are activated. But I currently feel we may deactivate them (especially the ecw support since it is dll based) but leave the files and the jai libs in the core if somebody likes to improve it. But we can discuss this issue before the next release - if we leave images as a plugin component.
