I've seen some interesting behaviour with 8.5R1.13 as well. A firewall filter that we apply to an upstream internet carrier Gig link was suddenly being applied to our fxp0 interfaces following an upgrade to 8.5. Downgrading an RE from 8.5 to 8.4 pooched the RE as well, leaving it at a # prompt, unable to boot from compact flash (managed to get it to boot from alt media though). I'll be opening tickets for both once I try to reproduce in the lab, but just a heads up for those looking to upgrade. Hopefully mine was an isolated incident.
