I agree that the PTX1K is too expensive as well. The QFX10K is a viable alternative. It's basically the same hardware just different (less) RAM and no MEF certification (PTX1K is certified). PTX1K has higher scale MPLS like number of LSPs and what not. Ask your SE to do a side by side on them to see how it may affect your decision making.
