Packagers and Devel:

There is a FOSS4G conference [0] in Boston this August at which our group
will distribute an LUbuntu specialty Linux distro (1604 now) [1], as we
have for the past many years. IPython Notebook was featured on the disk
since that was available, and more recently the Jupyter Project. Our
current packaging, courtesy of the technical lead Angelos Tzotsos, PhD
<https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Angelos_Tzotsos>, is here [2]

With the release of Jupyter 5, it would be desirable to update this
collection. After a modest level of research and inquiry, the only other
PPA for Jupyter 5 appears to be this [3] . However, *patient emails have
not been answered*, and the calendar days are passing.

Lastly, our Debian activity is rooted in pkg-grass aka DebianGIS [4]
<http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-grass-devel/>, which is
healthy and vigorous at this time due to the relentless efforts of a few
individuals. A related 'upstream' for much Debian packaging appears to be
the Debian Neuroscience project [5]. It is desirable to coordinate there,
when feasible.

** *If you or your team could benefit from solid Jupyter 5 / IPython 5.4
dot-deb packaging, please consider combining forces to accomplish this* **
