Hi

The East coast took some flood damage due to a combination of storm force wind
and exceptional high tides in the North sea, two people died as far as we know
but in most places the sea and flood defences stood up well. In London the
Thames barrier kicked in so the members of parliament kept their feet dry.

Here on the West coast we had some rain and a stiff breeze but that was about
it.

The surge tide in the North sea was the highest recorded, I remember in 1953
when we had a similar event hundreds of people were killed and thousands made
homeless and during the Queen's coronation our street party had several
orphans of that storm who all the grown ups made a huge fuss of naturally.
However Britain had not so long ago been at war and sudden loss of life was no
stranger, my friends and I used to play on the bomb sites in the streets where
houses had stood before the blitz and so we just got on with things. No one
thought of compensation claims then.

Regards

G
