I hope everybody had a merry and Happy Christmas this
year. Here we are on Day 363 of the year 2013. If you have a Mac
or other unix-based computer, you can tell which day of the year
it is by running the terminal and typing

date +%j

That gives you something called the Julien Date. On leap years,
you can get the satisfaction of typing that in on December 31
and seeing the number 366. All other years give you 365 as your
response.

Astronomers will ardu that the real Julien date starts
at Noon, not Midnight.

I went up and took down the Christmas star on Saturday
which is a little earlier than I usually do but we reached 61
degrees F or about 14 degrees C with Sunshine. That was a good
day to get it back down. Today at about eleven O'clock in the
morning, it is 24 Fahrenheit or about -4 Celsius, windy and
cloudy.

It may get somewhat warmer around New Year's Day, but I
am glad to have struck while the iron was, let's say,
Sun-warmed.

The year 2014 is going to be interesting for me. The
powers that be are really hot to trot on getting our new IT
building finished and us in those Orwellian cubicles. I am hot
to trot to find some other job that is in a more progressive
environment than the one we have evolved in to. I'm not angry at
anybody but sometimes, we must not stay too long at the fair.

Work has just started on the new site but they are
hoping to be done by mid August. These things usually take
longer than planned, but I figure by this time next year, we'll
be listening to each other's noise and swapping colds via the
aerosol method in our new little boxes.

If you can, listen to the Pete Seeger early sixties song,
"little Boxes." It is from around 1963 and as far as I am
concerned hits the nail on the head.

I'll let you know if anything good happens. Actually,
you'll hear me shouting with glee without the aid of any
electronic enhancement.

A happy and prosperous New Year to each of you

Martin
