Hi Sally,
it's probably a stupid question, but is the VPN opening the ldap port that you are using?
Otherwise, JX just uses standard java sockets - I think they time out after 30 seconds or so - there's probably some way to configure that at the java level, but I'd be very surprised if that was the problem. I'd suspect some combination of VPN or firewalls blocking the port to the LDAP server. You could even try 'telnet'ing to the port - you won't be able to do anything when you get there, but at least it will tell you if the port is accessible!
good luck,
Chris
Sorry - I did not explain myself very well. A user logs on to the network from home via VPN The user opens a JXplorer window When the user attempts to open a connection to the LDAP server, the attempt to connect to the LDAP server times out. The user cannot connect at all to the LDAP server, so it isn't a request itself that times out. Setting the timeouts for requests would not do well, since we cannot even connect to the LDAP server. How long will JXplorer try to connect (make its initial connection) to the LDAP server itself before it times out, and is there a way to adjust this? If not - no big deal - just trying to see if this can be done. Sally Kisely Web Application Administrator US Identity Management Services Life's unfair - but root password helps! Hi Sally, do you mean that after a period of inactivity, the VPN closes the connection? If that's the problem, there may be parameters that you set for the VPN? if you mean that the JXplorer connection times out independently though, I'm not sure what would cause this. Under the bonnet, JXplorer uses the normal Sun java SSL Socket to do the work, so you might be able to find something on the java newsgroups - I'm afraid nothing occurs to me straight off. Of course there are the normal time outs for a particular request; these are set in the JXplorer options menu, and default to '0', which means 'whatever the directory is set for'. If this last issue is the problem, you should be able to set your directory for longer time outs in its configuration. hope something there helps! - Chris On 29/09/2005, at 1:19 AM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
I have a question for you. We use JXplorer, but we have difficulty with connecting to the directory over VPN - it will time out. We have to connect via SSL. Is there a way to manage the timeout setting for connecting to the directory? Sally Kisely Web Application Administrator US Identity Management Services Life's unfair - but root password helps!
