if i use an email client on my linux laptop, it does not cache entire
emails and entire attachments. why do you assume they do?

Because I know how IMAP, POP3 and HTML work.

deleting an email
leaves no trace. hackers, spooks and those who gain physical access to
linux boxes cant resurect deleted emails from harddrive formatted in ext2.

You are delusional if you think data cannot be retrieved from an ext2 partition.

i expected likewise with all open source os and apps.

I have no words for this.
