I prefer external storage so I can inspect files. Internal files are not
accessible unless rooted.

I can wipe a SD card. Whereas, factory restore does not truly wipe internal
files. For example, this week I did a factory restore to mediaserver.
Merely playing my music with the stock music player caused MediaServer to
run, use my battery and sync my music. I deleted my music but there is no
option to delete music from the stock music player library. Hence the
factory reset. The wifi hotspot I had connected to was saved. What other
data was saved? I don't do backup. I don't have a google account on my
Motorola Droidx.

I downloaded VLC from f-droid.org. VLC doesn't cause mediaserver to sync my
music.

All my apps are from f-droid.org. I am not concerned about the open source
apps I download gaining access to information on my SD card. I am concerned
about Google, Verizon, NSA, third parties, etc. remotely accessing my
smartphone. They can access data regardless whether it is internal or
external.

In light of the Snowden relevations, we need to protect privacy. Your alibi
for not disclosing in the wifi is the misconception that everyone knows
their entire emails are cached, the cached files are unencrypted and are
permanent. Whereas, few people have knowledge of this.

Most users would not have the knowledge to use Kate like I did or some
other linux programming application to open the .db files to examine them.
Inkscape could not read the CVS files. What apps can? Had I only tried to
open the CVS files, I would not know to be concerned that K-9 is breaching
my privacy. However, after opening the .db files, I expected the CVS files
may be snapshots of my emails.
