You do realise that the "K-9 Organisation" consists of 2 or 3 people who write the code in their spare time, and give it away for free? They will provide the things that interest/motivate them. If you don't like that, then you had better start honing your coding skills. (Personally, I can't see any reason for the developers to continue to support platforms like V4 which will soon be obsolete. Most people that I know change phones every 6 months or so, so by the end of 2015 it will only be a small Luddite fringe who are still holding on to Android 4 devices. Lollipop/Material is the current offering from Google, and in term of future-proofing, that's what I would be developing for.
