It's possible that verizon has broken their configuration and/or failed to renew their certificate. If you're in a *nix environment, you can use the "openssl s_client" functionality to probe their setup. If not, if you provide the hostname and port that you use for retrieving messages others on this list can try to check. You only indicate an issue with retrieving messages. Do you use verizon for sending, and are you having problems with that too? If so, provide that hostname/port too.
