Do you have a sense of when it broke?

My nexus-5/android-6's webview is 47.0.2526.100, from jan-4, and
hasn't caused any issues, but your hardware is a bit different. My
sense is that webview does what the name implies - "displays web
content" - so wouldn't seem to be directly relevant, at least not
for text-only messages. That said, you could try the "uninstall
updates" option for it (under the three vertical dots in the upper
right in "app info"). The "uninstall" in the app store app probably
does the same thing. If that doesn't help, just reinstall the
updates.

Have you tried going back to earlier releases of K-9? K-9 5.007 is
from late november. K-9 5.006 was released in early june, about the
same time as 5.107 (alpha).
