Probably. 

If your provider doesn't support push email, check that polling is not set to 
never. 

If your device is running Android 6 or later and it only stops checking after a 
while, then it's related to Android's battery saving functionality and you need 
to disable the battery optimisation for K-9. In the future we will probably 
help you do this within the app if possible. For now, the setting is within the 
battery settings for your device.
