That is a completely different issue. 
Adding basic filtering capabilities (such as moving mail to different folders 
automatically, based on the senders address, words in the subject or other 
headers) is one thing. 

Implementing proper spam filtering, based on heuristics, statistics, external 
services and all the other techniques that real, server based, spam filtering 
use, is something else. 

And neither of these will help you to save bandwidth, as the mail still needs 
to be downloaded to your phone.
