Same problem, but a bit worse than I reported on 1/20/2019. Every hour or so it comes up Syncing Disabled. So, I go into general network settings and toggle between Always Sync, and Sync when marked, and then K9 will sync for a while. Identical results with Minimal Mail which appears to be a recompiled clone with different colors. I do see on the developers list that this problem has been in work for about a year, so at least I know the developers know about the problem.
