Yes, since you're using the demo proxy, the router/firewall settings
won't matter, they all get bypassed easily enough. The times I've seen
Kaboodle not work was because the Partnership files were not installed
on the current Master Node, but rather on another PC that was the
Master node at some other time. As I said the other day, it's a bit more
complicated that I originally planned; it will be much cleaner in 2.0.
For now, please let me know if EchoVNC ends up being more useful
for you.

As for the KaboodleProxy capability, it can be used to help facilitate the GetEngaged connection -- it's an alternative to doing port-forwarding. If you've already port-forwarded for the PC on the LAN, you won't need to use KaboodleProxy (though it will still work, of course). Lastly...what *is* the "connection you really care about"? If you just want to connect from one Windows PC to another Windows PC across the Internet regardless of firewalling, you should try EchoVNC: "http://www.echovnc.com";.
