ಹಿಂದುಸ್ತಾನಿ, ಪದಕೋಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಹುಡುಕಿದರೆ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆಯಲ್ಲ ಗುರುಗಳೇ , ಪಾರಸಿ ಭಾಷೆಯ "ಹಿಂದುಸ್ತಾನೀ "ಎಂಬುದರಿಂದ ಬಂದಿದ್ದು, ಅನೇಕ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಶಬ್ದಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ತದ್ಭವಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಪರ್ಷಿಯನ್ ಮತ್ತು ಅರೇಬಿಕ್ ಶಬ್ದಗಳನ್ನೂ ಒಳಗೊಂಡ ( ಉರ್ದು) ಭಾಷೆ ಇದಾಗಿದೆ. ಹಿಂದು ದೇಶದ, ಹಿಂದುಸ್ಥಾನದ ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.
