There's also the issue that Thunderbird doesn't ship a .desktop file upstream,
so many distros make one themselves, Arch Linux included. But because it
doesn't come from upstream, it's up to the distro to make sure the icons all
line up properly. I'm not familiar with how Arch does things, so it's possible
they've done everything right and it's a pure app bug, or there may be a
packaging issue going on too. You might consider reporting to the Arch Linux
folks to see what they have to say about it.
