I see the updates and decide to run them as part of somewhat wrapping up. And then I realize that I need to be done for now, but I don't want the whole system to be off or restart, I want to suspend — but I don't want to suspend in the middle of the update, I'd rather let it finish, but I just want to suspend really. So, that's when I'd use this function.
