I have since switched to the unstable channel and have not had this bug occur while on 6.5.5 - but it didn't occur immediately before, either, so maybe it's just a matter of time. I also have an nvidia GPU and am on wayland. Now I encounter a different frustrating bug with Spectacle that I have not seen reported elsewhere.
