The mouse thing was the first big issue I found post login, but upon further investigation I noticed that my display settings were stripped bare as well, including no options to adjust orientation or enable HDR. Found a post on reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/1r8x40x/hdr_missing_from_plasmadesktopmanager/) from someone mentioning the same and that switching back to sddm fixed the HDR issue. I tried and can confirm the same - and also that it fixed my issue with the mouse buttons. So I guess technically this is a bug for plasmalogin, but leaving here for someone more experienced to re-categorize as appropriate because mouse buttons breaking seems like a very odd result from changing the display manager.
