SUMMARY
Launching KWin on my multi-GPU setup after updating to 6.6.0 causes a freeze of
some sort where the display on one GPU shows a blinking cursor and the other
displays stay black, and I am unable to switch to a tty.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Boot system with multiple GPUs, with screens attached to both
2. Launch kwin_wayland, either through as a part of the Plasma login manager,
or as part of Plasma launched through SDDM
OBSERVED RESULT
Blank screen with blinking cursor, system unresponsive to inputs, forced reboot
through SysRq
EXPECTED RESULT
KDE Plasma launches extended across all three monitors.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.23.0
Qt Version: 6.10.2
Kernel Version: 6.12.73-1-lts (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 6850H with Radeon Graphics
Memory: 32 GiB of RAM (30.6 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor 1: AMD Radeon Graphics
Graphics Processor 2: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
Manufacturer: LENOVO
Product Name: 21D40010MX
System Version: ThinkPad Z16 Gen 1
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
My setup consists of a laptop with an AMD iGPU driving the internal screen, and
2 external screens connected to an RTX 3070 in an eGPU enclosure connected over
USB4. I can workaround this issue by disconnecting the eGPU enclosure before
booting and reconnecting it once Plasma is started. During boots where this
issue occurs, the journal only contains one log message from kwin. "No backend
specified, automatically choosing drm"
