Bug ID: 518175
Summary: MPRIS should honor web browser media playback settings
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First 6.5.5
Reported In:
Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected]
Target Milestone: 1.0
SUMMARY
In other OS and distributions that use GTK, MPRIS implementations can properly
ignore media player key operation when bound at WM level, and when settings
within applications (chiefly web browsers) preclude their use. This is not the
case for KDE Plasma's QT MPRIS implementation.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Toggle the setting for media key control off in a web browser (Firefox:
about:config -> media.hardwaremediakeys.enabled = false)
2. Load a browser tab that contains media playback elements that would be
registered via MPRIS (such as Youtube)
3. Ensure that the "Play/Pause Media Playback" keybind is set under
Keyboard->Shortcuts in system settings
4. Press the bound key.
OBSERVED RESULT
Media playback in the browser is affected by the keypress.
EXPECTED RESULT
Media playback should not be affected.
