            Bug ID: 518460
Summary: Enable View - Show reference images by default
    Classification: Applications
           Product: krita
      Version First 5.3.1
       Reported In:
          Platform: Other
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Usability
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

As a new user this is crazy. All I wanted to do is paste in a reference image
to Krita and draw it.

I tried pasting image from clipboard. Nothing.

Then I search the web and find this documentation with no screenshots and no
explanation of how to import a reference image:
https://docs.krita.org/en/reference_manual/tools/reference_images_tool.html.

Then I ask an LLM and I see reference images aren't in the menu, they're a tool
like a pen. So I click the tool. Literally no visual feedback.

So I ask the LLM. By default tool options aren't visible, they're hidden in a
separate box. So I go find that box somewhere at the top right.

Now I try add the image in every way possible, by clipboard, by file, by
pasting into paint program then saving to file then adding file as reference
image (since LLM tells me the Krita can't handle JPEG formats). Is there a
confirm box? Why can't I save the image? Where is it??

Still no image only a selection box!

Finally after more web searching I learn the menu option View - Show reference
images is disabled by default. Why... WTF. This is so bad. I wasted half an
hour on this.
