The bug, is to place it vertically above the hovered item if there is not enough space on the screen to fit it in a way that it doesn't obscure the item itself. This, however, *is the standard behavior for all popup menus in KDE*, as far as I can see, so not sure if this is a bug and/or if this should rather be reported to wherever this default popup behavior is implemented.
