Bug ID: 520651
Summary: Usability gap: Clicking once then shift-clicking
another location does not create selection
Classification: Applications
Product: okular
Version First unspecified

Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general

Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
A common UI paradigm is that clicking at a particular point in text sets a
cursor position, even if there is no visible cursor. Subsequently
shift-clicking elsewhere then creates a selection between the two points. You
can, for instance, almost certainly do this right now in the browser you are
using to read this bug report. This functionality is not present in Okular,
which I am finding to be a frustrating limitation to its usability with regard
to tasks involving a lot of precise copy operations.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open any document with text in Okular.
2. Click and drag over a region of text. The region is selected.
3. Click once at the start of the region. The selection is cancelled.
4. Hold shift while clicking once at the end of the region.
OBSERVED RESULT
Nothing happens.
EXPECTED RESULT
The region between the clicks should be selected.
