In a test involving over 200 grouped NEF and JPG images, I am unable to reproduce the problem here. However, in the pre-release version digiKam-9.1.0, we have fixed an issue with item selection that caused a massive slowdown when the Properties sidebar was active. The processing of selected images now takes place in a separate thread. Therefore, please give our AppImage a try.
