It does make rendering significantly faster, so that part is covered. Still, I could imagine that one or another might find it convenient, when a right click on a clip would additionally offer to save/store/render/whatever it. Currently we can dump it in the bin, extract it, create a sequence, and so forth. I have no idea about the necessary effort to some kind of exporting a clip, like the proposed copy, which is not really rendering. That is, without actually cutting it, removing parts, removing space, just right-click on any clip, or subsequently clips, in the timeline and export those as separate files of the original format.
