This looks like the old permissions issue that I thought I had worked around. 
The problem is that for some sliver of time after resume from sleep, the /dev
i2c devices exist, but udev uaccess permissions have not yet been applied so
device open() fails with error EACCES.  What happens if you add your userid to
group i2c?
