Still no dice. How are you opening kicker, clicking or pressing Meta? Did you launch something from the search or just close it? I can't even think of how this would happen. Similarly for the effect staying on reboot - even if some parts somehow get stuck, it should reset it when Plasma restarts. Unless there's something really wrong in the config, but this seems fine. It also doesn't show the "No matches" placeholder. I did find a bug related to that: if I wildly mash keys and delete them again for half a minute or so, it stops showing up.
