Setting 'None' as the virtual keyboard also works (i.e. the autoshift modifiers work; the issue goes away). It does work in QML apps like System Settings, even with Plasma Keyboard set as the virtual keyboard. Although I haven't been able to try other password fields in QML apps, as I don't know that I have any. It doesn't happen in other native Wayland apps.
