The image pastes from the clipboard without any corruption or abnormalities. I figure since neither of us are able to reproduce the issue now on Windows or Linux, and across multiple Krita versions since 5.2.3, it likely was due to some unique combination of things on the original system setup (or as they mentioned, fixed in some later update). As such, I'll close this report as RESOLVED/WORKSFORME. If someone else happens to run into a similar problem though, then the info here should hopefully help narrow down the root cause!
