Bug ID: 524371
Summary: Freezes KDE when second screen is connected
Classification: Plasma
Product: kwin
Version First 6.7.4
Reported In:
Platform: EndeavourOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: major
Priority: NOR
Component: multi-screen
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
When a second screen is connected, KDE becomes unusable. Widgets in the panel
and the panel itself is not clickable/does not react to input. I can open a
terminal window via shortcut and force reboot.
Second screen is connected via HDMI. I have tested connecting it via DP with
the same result. Turning off the screen is not enough to get the system back to
a usable state. It has to be unplugged from the GPU and the system rebooted for
it to function normally. The screen has to remain unplugged!
Furthermore i have tested running the GPU in Windows 11 dual boot to rule out
issues with it and i have tested KDE with X11 instead of Wayland, with lead to
the same issues and i'm currently typing this from an XFCE4 wayland session
with the screen connected and no issues, so its safe to say it is a KDE/KWIN
issue. Besides installing a theme and widgets onto KDE, i have not done any
other customization or messed with KDE in any form.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Plug in second screen
2. Boot OS
OBSERVED RESULT
See description please.
EXPECTED RESULT
System should function normally.
