Thank you, Nate, for looking into this!

But for me for example it is really important to have the panel in the corner,
because this functions as a "magic corner" according to Fitts’s law with an
infinitely large click-space and a blind-hit-accuracy of 100%. ... This is
something very valuable, since we only ever have 4 of those on our screens. And
 I would never want to leave them dead by the roadside for no apparent reason.

And BTW, this is  also happening with a full-width panel, isn't it? ... Which
would be disturbing in a whole other way too, because you would never expect
your panel to disappear, when you are on its side of the screen.
