            Bug ID: 524579
Summary: Smart column for sender/receiver shows receiver in
Inbox if identity "Templates" folder points to
                    inbox/root folder
    Classification: Applications
           Product: kmail2
      Version First 6.7.3
       Reported In:
          Platform: openSUSE
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: minor
          Priority: NOR
         Component: message list
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

DESCRIPTION
I have an IMAP-connected email account, where the Inbox is the root folder. So
below Inbox there's Sent, Trash, Drafts, Archive, and Spam folders. There is no
separate templates folder.
I discovered today that the message list displayed my own address, not the
sender. I must admit I don't know if it has been like this for a while, because
I mostly look at the subject, not the sender.

As I was reporting this issue I checked the settings and noticed that in the
identity the email account is linked to the templates folder pointed to the
root folder.
When I set the local templates folder as template folder for the identity the
smart column changed to display the sender address in the Inbox, Trash, Archive
and Spam folders.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add new account
2. Go to the connected identity and set the root (inbox) folder as templates
folder

I can't recall ever performing the second step here, so whether the settings I
had were the result of a migration bug or something else I have no idea, but to
reproduce the issue consistently now I have to perform that step actively.

OBSERVED RESULT
Folder list smart column for sender/receiver displays receiver in the Inbox

EXPECTED RESULT
Folder list smart column for sender/receiver displays sender in the inbox
regardless of folder settings for the identity

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System (available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a
terminal window):
Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed-Slowroll 20260802
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.28.0
Qt Version: 6.11.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
When I tested reproduction of the issue I checked the behaviour immediately
after adding a new IMAP account, and it then shows "Sender" as the column
heading in all folders.
So it may be more correct to display the issue as a missing step when a new
account is added. Users should be asked to define the folder settings for the
identity, so the user doesn't have to go into the identity settings after
adding the account to get the correct/expected behaviour. While it is trivial
to perform this additional step for me as a long-time KDE and KMail user, this
is not an optimal user experience for new users.

This *may* be the samme issue that was reported in bugs 296394 and 379408 -
there is not information in those bug reports to determine with certainty if
they have the same root cause.
