Bug ID: 525263
Summary: System hangs on shutdown or restart via KDE Start Menu
on ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Hero (X570)
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First 6.6.6
Reported In:
Platform: Ubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: Session Management
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected]
Target Milestone: 1.0
When attempting to shut down or restart the system using the KDE Plasma Start
Menu / Session Manager on an ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Hero (AMD X570)
motherboard, the graphical session exits, but the system hangs indefinitely on
a black screen with case fans and LEDs still powered on.
Key Observations:
Direct system power commands (e.g., custom desktop shortcuts or systemctl
poweroff -i) power down and restart the motherboard and PSU cleanly every time,
ruling out a physical motherboard ACPI or hardware power failure.
The hang only occurs during the graphical session cleanup phase when
initiated via the KDE Plasma UI, likely caused by an ACPI power-state
transition deadlock or a driver failing to unhook during the standard systemd
session tear-down.
System Environment:
OS: Kubuntu 24.04 LTS
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Hero (AMD X570)
Storage: Ext4 data drives mounted under /mnt
