To sum it up, you use default options, this happens with both Qt (Kmail) and Firefox, so this is not toolkit specific. Happens regularly, but randomly and quite often. The text is copied, and then pushed down by an empty line. To me it seems something is injecting the empty line. I see that you have KDE Connect running, there was a report about it causing issues. But it could be something else. As Nate says above, we need a clear reliable steps to reproduce it. If this does not happen on a new user, as you say in comment 5, there must be something specific to your user doing this.
