Bug ID: 526215
Summary: Scripting: expose quick tiles, a "pick a window" call,
and top-level window menu entries
Classification: Plasma
Product: kwin
Version First 6.6.6

Platform: Kubuntu
OS: Linux

SUMMARY
While writing a macOS-like "Spaces / Split View" script for KWin 6.6.6, I
missed three things in the scripting API:
1. Quick tiles. Window.quickTileModeChanged exists, but there is no
quickTileMode property and no way to get the quick tile layout of an output.
The only way I found is someTiledWindow.tile.parent (a QuickRootTile);
assigning window.tile = quickRoot.tiles[0] then works well. A
workspace.quickRootTile(output), like workspace.rootTile(output, desktop),
would help. (Related: bug 466482.)
2. Picking a window. To let the user pick the second window of a split, the
script opens Present Windows through kglobalaccel (invokeShortcut("Expose")),
polls workspace.isEffectActive("windowview") to learn that it closed, and takes
windowActivated as the pick; a window that is already active cannot be picked
this way. A call that shows the window picker and returns the chosen window (or
null) would make Snap Assist-like scripts much simpler.
3. Window menu. Entries from registerUserActionsMenu always go into the
"Extensions" submenu, so a script cannot put an action next to
Maximize/Minimize.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Kubuntu 26.04.1, KWin 6.6.6 (Wayland), KDE Frameworks 6.24.0, Qt 6.10.2.
