Bug ID: 526281
Summary: clock/date rendered twice on each monitor after cold
boot (NVIDIA, 4K + 1440p)
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasma-login-manager
Version First 6.7.5
Reported In:
Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: [email protected]

Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
Plasma 6.7.5 Wayland greeter (plasmalogin): after a full power cycle, the
first login screen renders the clock/date twice on each monitor — two
clock/date pairs per screen (4 total) instead of one per monitor. The doubling
does not correct itself. It never recurs after the first login within the same
boot, and single-monitor boots are always clean.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Dual monitor setup on NVIDIA (one 4K + one 1440p), Wayland greeter
(startplasma-login-wayland)
2. Full power cycle (a simple logout/re-login does not reproduce)
3. Observe the first login screen
OBSERVED RESULT
Each monitor shows a duplicated pair of clocks/dates (2 per screen, 4 total).
Persistent — does not self-correct after waiting.
EXPECTED RESULT
One clock/date per monitor (2 total), matching the layout after first login
and on all subsequent greeter starts.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: CachyOS Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.30.0
Qt Version: 6.11.2
Kernel Version: 7.2.7-1-cachyos-bore (stock 7.2.7-1 shows the same result)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090, driver nvidia-open-dkms 615.71.09
(nvidia_drm, modeset=Y)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Already ruled out:
- Greeter user state: /var/lib/plasmalogin is completely empty, no stored
layout
- Config: /etc/plasmalogin.conf (wallpaper only) A/B-tested — moving it aside
before a cold boot changes nothing
- Clock services: RTC and systemd-timesyncd healthy and synced before the
greeter starts
- Journal: no errors in the plasmalogin unit on affected boots
Let me know if you need more testing.
Cheers!
