            Bug ID: 526373
Summary: • Core Pain Point: Because the GUI Profile Editor and
Optical Train manager crash upon interaction, users
are unable to link backend INDI drivers to the
frontend Ekos UI train without manual SQL injections,
leaving telemetry unrendered in the mount tab.

DESCRIPTION
Bug Report: Ekos Profile Editor Segfault and Optical Train / Database Binding
Issues on Linux (Zorin OS)
Summary: The KStars/Ekos Profile Editor GUI triggers a hard Segmentation Fault
upon interacting with dropdowns on Linux (Zorin OS / Ubuntu-based systems),
forcing manual database configuration (userdb.sqlite). Furthermore, even when
hardware drivers (such as EQMod and CCD Simulator) successfully connect and
report online at the INDI server level, the lack of an accessible GUI
profile/optical train configurator leaves the Ekos client interface
disconnected from the telemetry stream.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
    1. Launch KStars and open the Ekos Profile Editor.
    2. Attempt to create or edit an equipment profile or interact with driver
dropdowns.
    3. Result: Immediate hard crash (Segmentation Fault).
    4. Attempt to configure equipment trains via the UI without a stable
profile manager; the UI fails to bind active INDI nodes (EQMod Mount, CCD
Simulator) to the active optical train (opticaltrains table), resulting in
blank/missing telemetry in the Ekos mount panel despite successful backend INDI
handshakes
OBSERVED RESULT
Detailed Findings & Workarounds Performed:
    • ModemManager Conflict: Discovered ModemManager actively grabbing serial
device ports; required permanent disabling (systemctl disable ModemManager).
    • Database Schema Location: Modern profile and hardware configurations
reside in ~/.local/share/kstars/userdb.sqlite across tables (profile, driver,
profilesettings, opticaltrains).
    • Successful INDI Handshake: Manual configuration in userdb.sqlite
successfully established hardware communication:

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Environment:
    • OS: Zorin OS Pro (Ubuntu/Debian-based Linux)
    • KStars Version: kstars-bleeding via ppa:mutlaqja/ppa
    • Hardware: Saxon AZ-EQ6 GT mount connected via direct FTDI USB-serial
EQDIR cable (/dev/serial/by-id/...) at 9600 baud.
Plaintext
[INFO] EQMod Mount is online.
[INFO] Observer location updated: Latitude -34.54 (-34.91) Longitude 138.31
(138.53)
[INFO] Setting UTC Time, Slew rates, and motor initialization successful.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
    Suggested Fixes for Upstream:
    1. Fix the Qt widget/dropdown handling in the Ekos Profile Editor that
triggers segmentation faults on GTK/Ubuntu-based desktop environments.
    2. Provide a fallback or more robust auto-binding mechanism between active
INDI drivers and the default optical train if database entries are missing or
modified headlessly.
