Bug ID: 526551
Summary: Shared folder file corruption (files rendered with
empty / NUL content on remote server) - Krdc
Classification: Applications
Product: krdc
Version First 26.08.1
Reported In:
Platform: KDE Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: major
Priority: NOR
Component: RDP
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
When sharing a local directory with a remote Windows host via KRDC (RDP
protocol), files accessed or copied through the shared drive become corrupted.
While file sizes are reported correctly, the actual file content on the remote
machine is replaced entirely with empty content or NUL bytes (0x00), breaking
text files, scripts, and certificates.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Configure a local shared folder in KRDC settings for an RDP connection.
Connect to a remote Windows Server using KRDC.
Open the shared drive on the remote server and copy/open any text or binary
file (e.g., .txt or .crt).
OBSERVED RESULT
The file content appears completely blank or filled with NUL (0x00) bytes when
opened in a text editor or parsed by OS utilities on the remote server.
EXPECTED RESULT
The file on the remote server should match the original local file
byte-for-byte without corruption.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System (available in the Info Center app, or by running kinfo in a
terminal window):
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.30.0
Qt Version: 6.11.1
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Protocol used: RDP (Shared Folders / Redirection).
Discovered while transferring SSL certificate files (.crt, .p7b), which
caused parser errors (CRYPT_E_ASN1_BADTAG) on the Windows side due to the NUL
byte corruption.
