Bug ID: 526612
Summary: Krita hangs/lags for over 30 seconds if a Security
Bookmark points to a network volume
Classification: Applications
Product: krita
Version First 5.3.2
Reported In:
Platform: Apple App Store
OS: macOS
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: Usability
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
(NOTE: This seems to only manifest on the App Store version of Krita for macOS)
When opening (or quitting) Krita, after granting permission for Krita to save a
file into a directory located on a network drive, if that network drive is NOT
mounted anymore, Krita will hand for over 15-30 seconds. I believe this is due
to the security bookmark feature in macOS App Store apps.
I figured it was something network volume related because macOS would complain
that it could not mount a server share after Krita became un-stuck. That felt
like it was more than a coincidence, so I dug in and sampled the process at 5
sec. intervals to see where it was being held up:
> start (in dyld)
> KisImageConfig::swapDir(bool)
> (libkritaimage.20.0.0.dylib)
> KisImageConfig::safelyGetWritableTempLocation(...)
> (libkritaimage.20.0.0.dylib)
> KisMacosSecurityBookmarkManager::instance()
> (libkritamacosutils.20.0.0.dylib)
> KisMacosSecurityBookmarkManager::KisMacosSecurityBookmarkManager()
> startAccessingSecurityScopedResources()
> decodeBookmarkToURL(QString)
> +[NSURL
> URLByResolvingBookmarkData:options:relativeToURL:bookmarkDataIsStale:error:]
> -[NSURL initByResolvingBookmarkData:options:...]
> _CFURLCreateByResolvingBookmarkData
> createByResolvingBookmarkDataInternal(...)
> resolveScopedBookmarkData(...)
> syncMessageToScopedBookmarksAgent(void*, unsigned char)
> xpc_connection_send_message_with_reply_sync
> _dispatch_mach_send_and_wait_for_reply
> mach_msg2_trap
Essentially - macOS is trying to re-mount the network share when Krita requests
the bookmark. I can only assume there's a way to tell macOS to NOT try and
mount these when accessing them, but I haven't gone much further in my
investigation.
The non-app-store versions does not suffer from this, since it's not inside a
Data Container, and does not use security bookmarks.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Krita (installed from app store), save a file into a mounted share
volume, grant the permission when requested.
2. Unmount and disconnect the network, making the share volume no longer
accessible.
3. Try and open Krita, it will hang for 30 sec when opening, after a timeout
from trying to mount, macOS will show an error about not being able to reach a
network volume, and Krita will open normally.
OBSERVED RESULT
Krita takes a long time to finally open, over 15-30 seconds.
EXPECTED RESULT
Krita ignores the unmountable security bookmark and opens at the usual speed.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: macOS 27.0 Golden Gate (But this manifests in other versions
such as 15.x)
