            Bug ID: 526822
Summary: Recent Locations displays filesystem access time
                    instead of recorded application activity
    Classification: Frameworks and Libraries
           Product: kio-extras
      Version First 26.08.1
       Reported In:
          Platform: CachyOS
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Recently Used
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
                CC: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

Dolphin's Recent Locations view shows old application visits as recent when a
directory's filesystem access time is newer than its recorded application
activity.

Observed example:
Directory: /mnt/data/media/music
Recorded Dolphin activity: September 9, 2026, 14:23
Filesystem access time: October 7, 2026, 10:22
Recent Locations displayed: Yesterday at 10:22 AM (screenshot taken October 8,
2026)

The application activity was checked in kactivitymanagerd's ResourceEvent and
ResourceScoreCache tables using a read-only SQLite connection. The filesystem
access time was checked with stat.

Expected result:
Recent Locations should display and sort by the recorded application-activity
timestamp. Directory reads by unrelated background processes should not make an
old application visit appear recent.

The current upstream recentlyused.cpp implementation retains filesystem
UDS_ACCESS_TIME under some conditions rather than always using the supplied
LastUpdateRole timestamp. This appears to explain the observed mismatch.

Environment:
CachyOS, Hyprland
Dolphin 26.08.1-1.1
kio-extras 26.08.1-2.1
kactivitymanagerd 6.7.5-1.1

Related report: bug 437382. Its fixes appear to address different timestamp and
sorting cases.

The process responsible for the newer filesystem access time is unknown. No
controlled reproduction has yet been performed.
