--- Comment #10 from Stephane <[email protected]> ---
I like the idea of using the Search place holder to make the feature
discoverable.

Another, not incompatible option, would be to keep AltDown+1 and AltDown+2 as
tab navigators, and use "AltDown AltUp", which currently does nothing, as an
activator for the "1,..,9" shortcuts. In other words, pressing Alt and
releasing it would activate the numeric shortcuts, ideally along some visual
hint. And repeating would toggle. Same as, say, firefox does. The visual hint
would probably have to be an item number prefixing the item, which would either
permanently consume a column of space or would require an horizontal shift of
the items to accomodate space for the column of item numbers upon activation.

Another option would be to expose and allow to customize the shortcuts. I've
been using Ctrl+PgUp/PgDown to navigate between the tabs, and find it amusing
that I discovered just now that AltDown+1/2 also work :)
If we were to expose the shortcuts, then, as a bonus to anyone curious about
shortcuts, we could offer the possibility to set a combination of keys which,
combined with a number, selects that item. Any user curious enough to open the
settings menu would be informed.

Speaking about tabs, I think we should keep in mind the existence of two tabs:
"All History" and "Starred Only". And I don't think their treatment should be
the same.
"All History" is ever-changing, while "Starred Only" is, relatively, stable
contents.
Currently, in both tabs, selecting an entry moves it to the top.
In the case of "All History", it makes sense that the last copied or selected
item is 1.
In the case of "Starred Only", some sort of "shortcut to that *particular* item
that I starred before" memory-muscle mechanism is arguably expected by the
user: "Starred Only" items should be ordered in the order they were "Starred",
not in the order they were last committed to the clipboard.
But the useful sequence "Show Clipboard History > Go to Starred Only > Press
Enter" to commit the previously committed "Starred Only" entry to the clipboard
should be preserved.
So the "Show Clipboard History > Go to Starred Only" sequence should focus on
the last item committed from "Starred Only" (not necessarily the first starred
item)

Note:
I filed a very similar request, https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=526838 but
for the action menu And Tomáš's comment helpfully pointed me to this Bug
Request and to Merge Request
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/merge_requests/6008
I understand this BR is kind of queued behind MR6008.
But MR6008 has not progressed much lately, so this is my non-developer way of
enthusiastically supporting the idea of a shortcut access to clipboard
items/actions.
